{GOODREADS}

When Harold Ross founded The New Yorker in 1925, he called it a “comic weekly.” And although it has become much more than that, it has remained true in its irreverent heart to the founder’s description, publishing the most illustrious literary humorists in the modern era—among them Robert Benchley, Dorothy Parker, Groucho Marx, James Thurber, S. J. Perelman, Mike Nichols, Woody Allen, Calvin Trillin, Garrison Keillor, Ian Frazier, Roy Blount, Jr., Steve Martin, and Christopher Buckley. Fierce Pajamas is a treasury of laughter from the magazine W. H. Auden called the “best comic magazine in existence.”

{GOODREADS}

Meet Haruhi - a cute, determined girl, starting high school in a city where nothing exciting happens and absolutely no one understands her. Meet Kyon - the sarcastic guy who sits behind Haruhi in homeroom and the only boy Haruhi has ever opened up to. His fate is now tied to hers.

Meet the S.O.S. Brigade - an after-school club organized by Haruhi with a mission to seek out the extraordinary. Oh, and their second mission? Keeping Haruhi happy… because even though she doesn’t know it, Haruhi has the power to destroy the universe. Seriously.

So since January, I have started reading a LOT more.

This year I have read the following books:

Two Gentlemen of Verona by William Shakespeare
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Henry IV, Part I by William Shakespeare
The Rampage of Haruhi Suzumiya by Nagaru Tanigawa
A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare
Domestic Crusaders by Wajahat Ali
Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare
The Laramie Project by Moises Kaufman and the Tectonic Theatre Project
Hark! A Vagrant by Kate Beaton

(yes I know most of those are plays and one of them is comics and one or two of them are essentially rereading, but STILL. Besides, each one of these is only counted if published in separate volumes.)

I have been reading, but have as of yet not finished, the following books:

The Wavering of Haruhi Suzumiya by Nagaru Tanigawa
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
My Antonia by Willa Cather

 This also does not count the numerous poems and short stories I have been reading.

Guys.  I haven’t read this much in ages.  I forgot how amazing it is.  It feels so good to be reading again.

Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett
This is a much more descriptive title.

Yes, nothing happens.  But suprisingly, a lot can be said without plot movement.  Do you read this as a modernist work? or a Postmodernist work?

Indeed, and this work would be utterly meaningless if anything happened in it.  As for me, this is definitely one of those times I am torn when it comes to the distinction between modernism and early postmodernism.  I often too quickly put anything so cynical and crushing in the postmodern category, but I definitely see it fitting with the nihilistic tradition of some modernists.
